Shane M. Whalen

April 7, 1972 ~ September 21, 2012
Shane M. Whalen, age 40 of Osceola, Wisconsin and formerly of Forest Lake, left us unexpectedly on September 21, 2012. Shane was greeted in heaven by grandparents, Gordon and Anita Reese, and Maurice Whalen; uncles, Frank Reese, Darrell Reese, and Bill McMurtry; his fishing buddy and surrogate dad, Rick Plain. Shane will be deeply missed by wife, Andrea Lakeberg; lights of his life, his children; Camella, Reese, and Jack Whalen; step-daughter, Neveah Peterson; mother Ma and step-father, Susan and Eric Lee; father and step-mother, Mike and Gloria Whalen; grandmother, Dorothy Whalen; sisters, Wendy (Justin) Hahn and Marissa (Nick) Lee; niece, Maya Hahn; aunt and uncle, Gail and Larry Lindstrom; aunt Karen McMurtry; former step-father Thomas Wright; his cousins, including the Reese girls and many other family and friends. Shane graduated from Forest Lake High School and has spent many years as a tree trimmer. He was well known for his thirst for adventure. Cliff jumping, skiing, snowmobiling and motorcycles... Shane had no fear! It was no wonder that he made a living high up in the trees. When it came to Shane, the risk was always worth the reward and that reward usually made for a good story. Shane had a great passion for fishing and the outdoors, spending more time outside than in. His life on Earth was too brief, but no one can question that he truly lived while here. Smiling and laughing, he loved deeply and he loved many. His big heart ultimately belonged to his children and his proudest title was Daddy. Shane touched many lives, always sharing his goodness, his stories, and zest for life. A celebration of Shanes life will be 7 PM Friday, September 28, 2012 at Roberts Family Funeral Home, 555 Centennial Drive SW, Forest Lake, MN 55025 with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 4 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to The Family of Shane M. Whalen.
We lost touch so long ago, but I have some great memories of you Shane. My thoughts go out to your mother and Eric. They were so kind. Your sister Wendy, so smart. Marissa, just a baby. And you, beautiful to me. I wish your wife and children strength. I’m so sorry for your loss.
I was just listening to a song shane used too love! When we first moved in to his new house we would both get home around the same crack a beer and listen to some tunes. If anybody knows Shane they know he loved to listen to music! Other then the standard station (93x) and the old school metal that was always being played he also had a softer side. He loved his Sunday’s cities 97 acoustic sunrise and sunset. We always had Sunday funday at that house. Ya never new who was gonna stop by, might be Pam and Danny and the kids or Dave or randy or any one of the crew. So anyways the song I remember was Heaven by the Los Lonely Boys. Thanks for the memories ol friend. Yer firecracker personality and yer true generosity too help a friend in need will be truly missed. Me and the boys will do a minnow shot with a Busch lite in yer honor while sitten out on the lake this winter! Love ya Shim RIP….
I love my family more than anything in world. It pains me that another member is gone. Shane, I will miss you always. Your smile, your blue (Reese) eyes and your spirited ways will not be forgotten. You definitely knew how to light up a room! Take care of everyone up there and know we’re thinking of you often.
Your cousin,
“Keeper of the porch room”
We lost another good one. I feel blessed to have been able to know you, Shane. You always had a smile on your face and a twinkle in your eyes. What amazed me most was the connection you had with children. You were playful and full of wonder to them. You touched many, many lives and you will be forever in their hearts. I need to thank you for introducing Inside The NFL to me. I was so amazed at the show and your patience with all the questions I had about football.
My sympathy goes out to everyone who mourns the loss of Shane. May he rest in peace.
I met Shane through a my friend Bre.
Shane, how we will miss you so very, very much. I grew up with Shane and our families spent so much time together, from the earlier days up at the “lake” in Spicer, Mn, to the times we shared at the cabin in Wisconsin and all the holidays in between, so many good times. Shane was like another brother to me and I have so many wonderful memories of him that I will cherish always and forever. Shane always had his great big smile and I will never forget the good times we had just sitting around the campfire telling jokes and the laughter we shared. Shane loved to fish and to be outdoors it didn’t matter how cold it was outside. And of course his love for his children, Oh how he loved his kids. Rest in peace dear cousin, we love you. Lisa
I will always remember the fun Mexico trips with you, Bruce and John Miller and the fun days working for the tree service. The rides back from the jobs were epic with Shane

My sincerest sympathy dear Susie, Eric, Wendy and Marissa. Shane meant the world to many people. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. When Rick passed I received a card that had a message in it I keep with me day after day. If it can give you comfort that is my purpose… It read, “Those we love are always with us. Their laughter, their wisdom, and their thoughtfulness are gifts of love that are ours to keep.” God Bless.
Shane~
I will miss your smile, your hugs, your laughter, your animated stories (plus sound effects), and your love for us ‘Reese girls’. I will cling to the memories we have made as a family throughout the years. You will forever be in my heart. Give my Dad a hug and a kiss.

I can’t remember a time when you were not my ‘other brother’ and I will miss you so much. Your smile, your laugh, your stories, and your pure enthusiasm for life are just some of the things that come to mind when I think you. Growing up with you in Stacy and going on all the crazy vacations camping, Hawaii, or the backyard around a campfire and of course Christmas are memories I will cherish forever. How we were blessed when your family moved in next door in Stacy! I love you and know that I will see you again someday.
I still remember the day you and your Family moved in across the street from use , It was great growing up with you and your sisters, many fun time we had . You will be greatly missed .
Shane I am so happy for all the wonderful memories that I have with you growing up. There is a constant lump in my throat that I can not get rid of. My heart aches knowing that I will never be able to laugh at your stories, dance with you, hug you, or see your awesome BLUE eyes again. I love you so much and so did my kids. I am so lucky to have a cousin like you. Love you always!!!!!!!!

I have many, many fond memories of my cousin Shane. We were only 1 year apart and we were cousins and best friends when we were kids. We shared so many fun times and caused our share of trouble as well. I moved to New Mexico when I was 15 so I was only able to see Shane a handful of times since then, but I will always remember Shane as a great cousin and a great friend.
At family gatherings Shane was always a delight to be around. You couldn’t help but smile to see his twinkling eyes and mischievous grin. He had a smile-producing comment for everyone. We thank God for sharing him with us as long as he did. We’ll miss Shane.
Shane was such an awsome presence, so fun and enthusiastic. He was such a good person with a huge heart. I loved and admired him since I was a young girl. This is such a huge loss for all. Eric, Sue, Wendy, and Marissa- you are in my thoughts.
I never new Shane, we are so far apart, are hearts go out to you Susie and your family. I have fond memories of you and your little wagon back on the farm.
So sorry to hear about your loss.. I went to school with Shane. Rip Shane!
At church this morning I prayed for a sign that Shane got his wings and he was with Rick in Heaven. When we got home from church Tom called me outside…. soaring right above our house were TWO eagles. The amazing part is that in the 25 years Tom has live in this house the ONLY other time we saw an eagle was the day Rick died.
Rest in peace, dear Shane. We love you so much it hurts.
Yvonne
