As a Como boy from St. Paul, Dan graduated from Cretin-Derham Hall. Some of his happiest memories were made during summers at the family cabin on Second Lake in Forest Lake. He proudly served his country in Vietnam & joined the family business, Scholl’s Inc., founded by his father. Dan spent many years living on Forest Lake, where he embraced lake life & loved hosting family & friends for his favorite holiday, the Fourth of July. He found great joy in boating, playing volleyball & pool, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, & spending time with his devoted dogs. Dan will be remembered for his love of family & friends, his devotion to his country, his generous spirit, & especially his wonderful sense of humor. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched & in the countless moments of laughter & fun he shared with those around him.
Dan’s life will be celebrated with a gathering from 3-6 PM Tuesday, July 21st with a time of sharing & military honors beginning at 5 PM at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Como Friends or Children’s Home & LSS.

😢 I have known Danny since I was 5. When I heard that he was gone, I felt a punch in my stomach, and felt so sad that we haven’t connected in the past few years. Life is short. Laura, Leah, Kevin, and Care Bear, we are sending you so much love to you at this sad time. You too, Mike, Tim & Karen for the loss of your little brother.
Danny and I grew up just one block away from each other and we both attended Holy Childhood. We grew up in the best neighborhood, right between the State Fair grounds and Como Park. What could be better! Danny was a year older, and I saw him as the leader of the Como neighborhood kids. And, his sister Patty was my sister Diane’s best lifelong friend. I mostly spent those early years tagging along with my big sister and Patty. I was in heaven!
Even better, both the Scholls and the Schoellers spent summers on Forest Lake. We were on First lake and the Scholls were on Second lake. Again….what could be better!
A few memories…..
• All the kids in the neighborhood loved to especially go to Scholls on Halloween because they had the best treats. Not only did we get candy, but we also got trinkets from Scholls Inc.! We always wanted to circle back to Scholls!
• Sailing on their sailboat when I was a little girl. It was so fun, but I was scared to death!
• My childhood with my sister and Patty changed with Dan’s parties in the 60s and 70s at their house on Midway Parkway and at Forest Lake. At one of his lake parties, Danny doused me in the lake. That same night, Tom and I “saw” each other for the first time. Thank you, Danny! 🥰
• Tom was Danny’s best man at their wedding. And, I discovered at the reception that Laura and I are second cousins! My Mom told me that Ted Houle was her cousin, but probably not the same Houle family. Well, at the reception, I met Laura’s grandmother, Regina Gabrio Houle. Her nose looked just like my Moms, so I knew that we were related! So, I am not only your Mom’s second cousin, Leah, Kevin and Carrie, I am your second cousin once removed!
• Vikings games……Dan and Laura would invite a busload of friends to Vikings games! So fun!
• 4th of July and hot tub parties at their beautiful home on Forest Lake. 😳😂
• They also invited us to sing along to Alabama at the Great Minnesota Get-Together!
• So many , many more fun memories.
Danny and I had such a great childhood, and a shared life long friendship.
We will deeply miss his sparkly blue eyes, his fabulous smile, his feisty spirit and his love of family and friends.
Thank you Jim!
Thank you for the wonderful message Mary!
When a memory of some past event appears from the back room in my head, Danny is usually there. We met some sixty years ago at the Cue and Carrom pool hall, where Mike O’Connor worked. Through Danny, I met Jim Rechtiene, and things started rolling from there. We had a great group of friends, and we got together often. Danny’s cabin was one of our favorite places to gather. So many memories there! I know Dan was greeted by our friends who have passed. Will miss you brother.
Thank you Tom for sharing!
