Cathy Neubeck

Age 75 of East Bethel. Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 22, 2026.

Preceded in death by parents, Driskill & (Ethel) Pauline Basham; sister, Ramona (Dick) Hall. Survived by loving husband of 54 years, Dan; children, Dana (Lance) Stevens & Andy (Missy Young) Neubeck; grandchildren, Beck and Vaughn Stevens; granddogs, Suki, Sprouty, and Loki; siblings, Karen (Keith) Johnston, Jerry (Janice) Basham, & Barb Ruley; along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other dear relatives & friends.

Cathy was a beautiful wife with an infectious laugh, a fierce mother, a loving nana, a cherished sister, a fun aunt, and a loyal friend. She loved gardens, flowers, wildlife, and the outdoors. A small-town girl from Lowell, Indiana, her sights were set on moving to New York City right after graduation in 1969. Instead, fate intervened, and she moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, following the footsteps of her sister Karen. In 1970, shortly after arriving in Minnesota, Cathy got an office job in St. Paul, where she became friends with a coworker, Jeanne Neubeck. Knowing that Cathy was new to Minnesota and single, Jeanne asked if she could introduce her to Dan, who was also single and the twin brother of her husband, David. Cathy agreed, and the rest is a love story for the ages. Dan and Cathy got married in 1972, bought their first house in the developing suburb of Blaine in 1976, and happily raised their two kids there. They lived in that house for the next 42 years until moving to East Bethel in 2018.

As a young family, weekday dinners together were a must, and each summer, the eagerly anticipated camping trips to the Dells with family were a tradition. After raising their kids, Cathy and Dan decided to make the most of their vacation time and travel all over the US. In particular, they took RV trips through many states. Her favorite trip was their 3-week adventure from Seattle to Los Angeles, which included a lot of time on Highway 1 throughout California.

Cathy worked hard and was an inspiring role model. Over the years, her favorite job was being a school bus driver. She always said this was the easiest job she ever had, too! Her husband, kids, and pets were at the center of her universe, and her grandchildren and granddogs were the lights of her life. The love she had for her family was unmatched. She was always up for a chat or hangout, playing games (absolutely no jigsaw puzzles though!), shopping, going to her grandkids’ events, watching baseball, or meeting for coffee, breakfast, lunch, or dinner (or all of the above!). She also had an incredibly soft spot for animals, especially puppies, kitties, gorillas, and all other primates.

We plan to carry on her legacy through her recipes, traditions, humor, and everlasting love of life, animals, and family.

Cathy’s life will be celebrated with a gathering from 4-7 PM Friday, October 9th at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake. Memorials preferred to the Animal Humane Society.
