Caroline Dorothy Rydl (Smetana)

Our loving mother, Caroline Dorothy Rydl (Smetana), 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024 in Hugo, MN surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Sylvia Smetana; beloved husband, John; brothers, Leo sisters, Donna & Frannie; granddaughter, Kari Jo; son-in-law, Jon. She is survived by daughters, Betti Schmidt, Beverly (Ken) McDermott, Barbara (Matt) Curtis; brother, Bill; 5 grandchildren, Rob, Troy, Amber, Chris, Billy; 6 great-grandchildren, Jeron, Katie, Jadyn, Kelliann, Jase, and Graham; her best friend, Annie Leo; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Caroline’s life 4-8 PM Thursday May 9th at the Hugo American Legion 5383 140th St. N., Hugo. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Encore Memory Care and Hospice of the Midwest, as well as all of the other care givers who have been a huge support throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to be designated to Alzheimer’s Association.
