Age 73 of Columbus. Loving Husband, Dad, Papa & Brother, passed away on May 14, 2026. Preceded in death by parents, Vernon & Vivian. Survived by loving wife of 43 years, Laurie; children, Chad (Shelly), Nick, Cassie; son-in-law, Patrick Krasean; grandchildren, Kate, Emmett, Brendan, Beatrice, George; siblings, Vance, Virgil (Sue), Danny, Connie (Rocky) Thomas; many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Steve was born & raised in Mora and graduated from Mora High School in 1970. After graduating, Steve enlisted in the United States Army at age 17 during the Vietnam war. He was trained as an explosive ordnance disposal specialist (bomb squad), including chemical and nuclear weapons disarmament. Steve spent 3 years in the Army stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado and Kitzingen, Germany. He was awarded the Army commendation medal for participating in several successful serious explosive incidents plus training both military and civilian (law enforcement-firefighting) personnel in explosive ordnance safety.
Following an honorable discharge from the Army, Steve attended Anoka Ramsey Jr. College where he graduated with an associate of arts degree in Mechanical engineering. He worked as an engineer for 7 years at Donaldson Company designing filtration systems and micro component technology for 8 years designing integrated circuit testers. He retired from Boston Scientific Corp after 25 years of designing medical products and managing the mechanical engineering department. Steve Participated in developing “stents” while there and was awarded several patents throughout career.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed water, downhill and cross-country skiing, photography, refinishing woodwork, & collecting eagle figurines. Above all his favorite pastime was fishing. As a child he enjoyed spending time at the family cabin and was able to purchase a cabin of his own as an adult. Spending time at the cabin gave Steve an escape in nature where he could enjoy hunting, fishing & boating as well as spending time with family & friends.
Steve’s life will be celebrated with a service at 5 PM Tuesday, May 26th with visitation beginning at 4 PM at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake.

On behalf of the Forest Lake American Legion Post 225, we give thanks for Steven’s military service to our country in the Army. I also served in the 3rd Infantry Division in Kitzingen, Germany, but a few years after Steven.
