August 23, 1944 ~ December 15, 2024

Yvonne Carol Newman, 80, of Wyoming, MN, formerly of Forest Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. Yvonne fought a long battle with ALS with unbelievable courage, acceptance and humor. Unfortunately, she contracted COVID-19 pneumonia and could not fight it. Yvonne was born on August 23, 1944, in St. Cloud, MN. She graduated from Brooklyn Center High School in 1963. That same year, she married the love of her life, Jerry Newman, and in 1966, they moved to Forest Lake. Over the years, Yvonne worked for Minneapolis Electric, Forest Lake Community Credit and Star Mold. Her favorite job though was with Frito-Lay. Delivering chips to local grocery stores she got to be known as the Frito Lady. From 1980 to 2000, together with her husband they ran family-owned businesses starting with Newman's Consignment Shop, Newman’s Ski and Snowboard Shop, and Newman's Pool and Spa. Yvonne enjoyed camping, fishing, quilting, snowmobiling, crime tv, reading, riding in the car with Jerry to unplanned destinations, and mostly being with friends and family. In 2002, she discovered the warm weather of Florida and spent the next twenty-two years as a snowbird with her husband Jerry in Fort Myers. On weekends, they could be found selling Yvonne's Streak-Free Cloths and Rada Cutlery at the Fleamasters Flea Market. In 2022, the doctor's of Mayo Clinic diagnosed Yvonne with ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gherig's disease. Given the terminal diagnosis, Yvonne and Jerry decided to sell their Florida home and business and make Wyoming their full-time home. Over the next two years, Yvonne lost the use of her body and had to rely on those around her to do everything for her. Yvonne is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-one years, Jerry Newman. Her children, Kimberly (Walter) Paugel, Amy (Glen) Corbett, and Alan Newman. Her siblings, Sharon (Tom) Doran, Nancy (Walter) Cieslak, Jenelle (Jim) Nelson, and Gary (Sandy) Sendek. Her grandchildren, Gabrielle (fiancé, Josh Salonek) Paugel, Bryce Corbett, and Brooklynn Corbett. Her two cherished fur babies, Noodle Lou and Pepper. She will be dearly missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM Saturday April 26th with visitation beginning at 10 AM at Robert’s Family Funeral Home in Forest Lake.

  3. I have such wonderful memories of Mrs. Newman. She welcomed me into her home as if I were one of her own. I think back on all the great times cross country skiing, girl scouting events, movie nights, my first Stewies submarine with Frit-O-Lay chips! My heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. Newman, Kim, Amy, Alan, and family. I pray you get comfort in all the wonderful memories you have. I know she will be watching over you all. Much love!

  4. She was a second mother to me and my siblings. She took good care of us. She was always kind and thoughtful for us. We will miss her dearly. Condolences to her family. Great times we had together. Prayers to all of you.

  5. Yvonne will be missed. She and Jerry have been my friends since 1972, when Jerry and I worked together. In about January, 1992, Yvonne and I had quit smoking about the same time. I ran into her and we were discussing quitting and the use of the “patch”. She got a very quizzical look on her face and asked “do you have really bizarre dreams when you put on a patch for the night?” I remember thinking, Thank God, I’m not crazy!!! I said it and we both laughed and hugged. I am still thankful that she had the courage to ask.
To Jerry and the entire Newman family, heartfelt condolences and remember: “Now she soars with the eagles”

  6. So sorry for your loss. Yvonne was such a special person, she came to our store, Carlisle Store every week with our order, she was always happy, and we had so many laughs and talks. Cathy Carlisle

  7. Yvonne was one of the nicest, most genuine people you would ever want to meet. A short time ago I was able to stop and see her and Jerry in Florida and it was like nothing had changed. Her smile and demeanor were just as I remembered. She will be missed.

  8. Yvonne was my best friend through high school. We had alot of fun times together and I will never forget her. We hadn’t seen each other since our last class reunion a long time ago. We talked recently and it was wonderful to connect with her. My heartfelt condolences to Jerry and their family. Joanne Saporito Briere
