Steve Carter

September 22, 1952 ~ January 25, 2022
Steve Carter, 69, of Forest Lake took his last Checkered Flag and passed away peacefully at home with his wife Sandye by his side on January 25th, 2022. Steve was diagnosed with aggressive esophageal cancer early last February. He took on the disease the same as he had any other challenge in life, head on with determination and without quitting. His mantra was "150 MPH sliding sideways" and he kept his foot down until the very end.
Preceded in death by parents Ev & Ann. Survived by his Soulmate, Sandye Carter; his son Leon (Elanore) & daughter Chloe; grandchildren, Emma, siblings, Charlie Carter, Terry Ann Close, and Sandy Carter-Moore.
Steve was legendary in the Sports Car Racing Community, especially the IIRA Ice Racing Club along with SCCA, IMSA, and WRC for his ability to find solutions to anything mechanical. He has a quest for learning something new every day and inventing a "better mousetrap" to make race cars faster. He also loved to travel and get lost while exploring. With Sandye by his side for work and play, they were an Awesome Duo to be reckoned with.
Nothing was more important to Steve than family and friends. He was always willing to listen and provide a shoulder to lean on with care and compassion. He was a few weeks shy of 38 years of sobriety and his AA community was a constant source of strength and support.
Steve was always the first to offer help to everyone on his path. He embraced all as friends, never as strangers. His stories and perspective will be missed to all who were lucky enough to have spent time with him.
A celebration of Steve's life will take place at his new shop on Sunday, February 13th from 1 to 6PM at 4705 358th Street, North Branch, MN, 55056. All are welcome to come join the catered event to share stories and make new memories.
Another celebration gathering will take place this summer on July 9th/10th on the lake to enjoy the water with family and friends as Steve had many times.
