Lucille C. Powers

April 18, 1937 ~ November 20, 2021
Lucille C. Powers, 84, formerly of Minnetonka, MN, passed away November 20, 2021. Lucy was born April 18, 1937, in Gilchrist Township near Glenwood, MN to Carl & Thilda ‘Tillie’ Dahl. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Tillie; children, Bradley and Robyn; grandson, Victor Anderson; sons-in-law, Morris ‘Butch’ Anderson and Timothy Gleason; brothers, Leo Dahl and Ellsford Dahl. Survived by brother Donald Dahl; sister-in-law, Joyce Dahl; daughters, Susan (Bob) Stiles, Debra Anderson, Darcy (Terry) Caye and Jacqueline Gleason; grandchildren; Jeremy (Lori), Jerad (Katie), Aaron, Marcus (Meggan), Jessica (David), Sarah, Jonathan, Mary, Martha (Tony), Susanna (Dan) and Joshua; nine great-grandchildren; Dylan, Vivien, Emma, Adrianna, Jayde, Grace, Elliot, Bella and Wyatt; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lucy grew up on her parent’s farm near Glenwood, MN. She attended a one-room school in Rolling Forks, MN, where she met her husband Victor Powers. She often said she appreciated the one-room schoolhouse setting because she could overhear the lessons taught to the older children and knew that she would have to study hard to advance to the higher levels. At an early age though, she realized that farm life was not for her, especially after getting paid pennies per cob for shucking corn by hand all day. After that, she vowed that she was never going to do such tedious work for a living. She would tell of the time she was pumping water at the kitchen sink from the cistern and a snake came out of the spout. That incident was the last straw and off to the ‘big city’ she went. Victor and Lucy were married in Minneapolis, MN on March 25, 1953, where they went on to raise six children. In the Twin Cities, Victor and Lucy enjoyed playing chess together, cards on Friday nights with siblings, Sundays watching the Vikings and frequently tailgating at the ‘Old Met’ with friends and neighbors.
Lucy was a natural born leader, full of passion, and single-minded in her mission to take the wheel. Her entrepreneurial spirit first led her to purchase a 2 ½ story home in the Kenwood area where they lived and rented out the upper rooms. She then moved to the Lake Calhoun area and started a daycare in her home while her children were young. She attended college at the University of Minnesota in the evenings where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development. Her hard work and generous actions defined her. After college she worked at General Mills, Inc. as a manager in transportation. She left that position to join Thorpe Brothers Real Estate as a sales associate, which led her to start her own real estate company, Marketplace Properties of Wayzata and later Information & Records Services, a business servicing real estate title companies, where she continued for 27 years until retirement in 2018. Lucy loved to share her home with others and often hosted family gatherings. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed traveling and attending cultural events.
