lana house

February 16, 1946 ~ November 1, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lana Jean (Jeanie) House who departed this world on November 1, 2024, at the age of 78. Jeanie was born on February 16, 1946, in Marshall, Missouri, raised in Kansas City, Missouri, graduated from Northeast High School and spent the last 42 years calling Forest Lake, Minnesota home. Jeanie began her career in Forest Lake as a realtor. Jeanie went on to join an investment group that acquired a Perkins franchise, successfully opening a new location in Forest Lake and contributing to its growth and success in the area before eventually retiring in 2010. Jeanie lived a life that was as vibrant, opinionated and unforgettable as she was. She was known to those close to her as fiercely independent, just a touch ornery and was never one to follow a crowd or hold back an opinion. She could never keep a secret except for where the best fishing holes were. She took great joy in cultivating flowers and tomatoes and pursued a passion for fishing… fishing… and more fishing. Jeanie enjoyed spending time with her husband Mike exploring any lake where they could reel in crappie and walleye. This passion drew them to Ottertail, and in the winter, they ventured to Lake Havasu AZ to catch even more fish. Jeanie is preceded in death by her son, Shawn Murphy; and her parents, Edward and Betty Slater. She leaves behind her husband, Mike House of Forest Lake, MN; sister, Edwinna Etterlein of Surprise, AZ; niece Khristine Warrener of Climax Springs, MO; and nephew, Jeff Lupardus of Overland Park, KS. Jeanie will be deeply missed by all who knew her but also know that she is now at peace, fishing with her dad and Shawn at all those “secret fishing holes”. Jeanie's life will be celebrated with a gathering from 4-7 PM Wednesday, November 6th at Roberts Family Funeral Home. Private interment at Scandinavian Cemetery, Forest Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gift donations be made to the Mayo Clinic. Memorials can be made online at www.mayoclinic.org/development or mailed to Department of Development, Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55095.

  1. Have many fond memories of Jeanie and Shawn in my young life. Have missed them dearly.
They taught me to snow ski, wear bandanas in my hair and the love of the outdoors. Love Jeanie for her sassy ways and her beautiful laugh.
    Will miss her deeply.

  2. I got to know her through the “House” family, Lori… we were always welcome to visit their family on the 4th of July to watch the fireworks from her adorable impeccable kept log cabin home, with the most amazing tomatoes you would ever see grown. She was always welcoming to us, my then ex and I would enjoy spending this holiday with their family every year. She will be very missed from many. Hurts my heart to hear this today and remember those good years I had out there with everyone… my sincerest condolences
