Kathryn Earnest resident of Parmly on the Lake, Chisago City, MN and formerly of Lindstrom, MN passed away on March 24, 2022 at the age of 81 years. Kathryn was born on August 24, 1940, to Christine & Clem Dziengel on the farm in Argyle, MN. She grew up on the family farm near Kennedy, MN. She graduated from Kennedy Public School in 1958. She went on to attend school in Crookston, MN for an LPN degree. She practiced nursing in Hallock and Thief River Falls, MN. She then went on to attend Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN to complete a four year degree. She interned at Midway Hospital in St. Paul, MN as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, where she retired. Kathryn enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking. She was a 4-H member and enjoyed showing her projects at the county fair. This lead to exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair winning many Grand Champion Ribbons. She held the title of the “Pickle Lady” after she won the Gedney Pickle award for her Baby Baby Dills. She is survived by son, Thomas (Marlene) Dowdle, Kennedy, MN; sister, Carroll Nelson, Mesa, AZ; brother, Roger (Judy) Dziengel, Kennedy, MN; grandchildren, Angela, Andy, Aaron, Alicia five great-grandchildren & one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by husband, Michael Earnest; parents, Christine & Clem Dziengel. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Wednesday, April 6th with visitation one hour prior at Church of St. Peter, 1250, S. Shore Dr., Forest Lake. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Forest Lake.

  1. I remember seeing her at my sister’s funeral in 2006. I introduced her to my three sons as “my cousin the pickle lady”. They thought they were meeting a celebrity. They loved her state fair garlic baby dills. I’m still buying them when I can find them.
