Trace & family –
We were saddened to hear of Julie’s illness and death. Judy Strand forwarded the article that was in the Pioneer Press, it was very well done. I can still picture Julie calling “Harvey” the dog out of the mud puddle, and her laugh when I gave her the polka-dot bikini when Danielle was born. Julie had a wonderful spirit that will not be forgotten by anyone who ever met her. Our hearts go out to you all.

I was in Mrs. Johnson’s first classroom back in 1987 and I will never forget what she gave to us as her students. She is always the first face that I recall when people ask why I became a teacher myself, so I like to think that a piece of her will live on in my teaching every day. Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for everything you gave to so many people. If it’s “Ode to Joy” or “Every Rose has a Thorn,” I’ll never listen to those songs again without thinking of you and the year I had the privilege to call you my teacher.
Trace, Danielle, Alec & Eli,
Our daughter Madison was in the blue house at Rutherford two years ago so we got to know Julie, and it was evident how much she loved being a teacher and being with the kids.
This year Madison and Eli are in class together at St. Croix Prep in Mr. Reistad’s class. In February, I felt very fortunate to be volunteering in the kid’s class the same day Julie was volunteering. I was able to talk with her afterwards and she was in such good spirits.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.

My sincere sympathies to Julie’s family. I was just looking at a picture from my wedding in which she is smiling with her mom and daughter. My husband Greg and I named our 8 year old Julie and I will always think of what a brave and inspirational woman she shared her name with. A loss of a young mother is the most painful, it seems as though she made the most of every single day and her children are her greatest gifts to those she loved. I know she is in heaven along with another Angel, my sister Luann, also a young mom, watching over all the ones they loved so much.
Dear Johnson Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Your mother was one of the most loving, uplifting, positive, and generous souls I have ever known. Her spirit will live on in all of us that were touched by her and lucky enough to know her.
She had a gifts that are very rare. The gift of laughter, loving unconditionally, and embracing every moment.
Blessings to all of you during the weeks and months ahead.
With love,
Anna Maakestad
Dear Johnson family,
My daughter and our family were so touched by Julie as a teacher and a great human being! We feel blessed that you shared her with us and for all that she taught our daughter (especially how to do the crabwalk to math in the Blue House!). Most of all the joy she had for life and her students will be remembered forever!
God Bless you during this difficult time.
Love,
Jackie, Dale, Sydney and Carson Peterson
