After graduation, he went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Ferne. Joe carried a tremendous work ethic throughout his careers of construction and scrap iron while raising his four sons. Joe and Ferne were also widely known and loved musicians playing country and western music as “Ferne and the Blackjacks”. In his later years, Joe retired from physical labor and began a new career as a professional model and actor. He was proudly featured in 97 print ads, more than 100 commercials, music videos, Hollywood movies, billboards, magazine covers, and more. Though modeling kept him busy, Joe enjoyed spending his free time singing karaoke and playing bingo where he formed many dear friendships he cherished until the end. Most of all, Joe loved to make people smile. He was always quick to share stories, hugs, jokes, and laughs. He also baked countless cookies and cakes which he delivered to friends, neighbors, relatives, and even perfect strangers. Joe will long be remembered as a gentleman who always held doors for others, was careful to never swear around women or children, and always treated people with respect. Joe enjoyed a life well lived and will be missed by many. Joe's Celebration of Life will be held at the Forest Lake, MN American Legion from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 11th.

  2. Joe and I met in, I’d say 2001 and the friendship grew into one if my most cherished. He would tell me jokes and I’d tell him with a straight face “No, give me another” then we would laugh! He always brought a snack or a big hug and kiss. His love for Cheetos and music will be with me forever. He spoke of his family with such pride and always had time for a good talk. We will always have Elvis dear friend. Our last visit was extra special and I thank his family for that. ❤ Rest easy handsome.

  3. I met Joe about 12 years ago at the American Legion in Forest Lake playing Bingo. Went there every Wed. & Sundays For about 5years. Always loved his jokes and would always let us know when he was going to do a shoot or be on a Billboard. He had a wonderful singing voice and loved music so much. He also loved people. He will be very missed by many.

  5. How was a dear friend for many years. He would come to the North St Paul Legion quite often and share his stories. We were fortunate to have been invited to go on a sleigh ride with him. He had a friend that had a couple very big horses and Joe convinced him to give us a ride. There were only 6 of us and it was truly special. One other time he won a hot tub party and we got to share that also. So many special memories! Rest in peace dear friend. Our Deepest Sympathy to his entire family. Steve and Mary Kroll
