Jim Manderud, known by many as “The Big Swede,” was born August 22, 1958 in Roseville Minnesota to George and Evelyn (Senum) Manderud. The youngest of six children and only son. Jim’s father was a home builder/contractor owning “George’s Home Service.” He gave Jim small jobs on job sites at age 10 to introduce him to carpentry. Jim continued helping his father throughout high school. Following graduation from Alexander Ramsey High School in 1976, Jim received a Certification of Apprenticeship, a four-year program at St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute. His previous employment with George’s Home Service qualified him to receive his Carpenter Journeyman License soon after. Jim continued collaborating with his father as a residential carpenter for many years. He also worked as a Commercial Carpenter with Local 87 Carpenters Union for twelve years. Jim’s final employer was Structural Wood Corporation as a Cutline Operator ten years before retiring. Jim was united in marriage to Debra Fay on July 11, 1980 (34 years). Jim and Debra have two children. Travis and Lindsey. Although Jim was a man of few words… he was always extremely proud of their accomplishments. Jim & Debra lived in St Paul (15 years), Hugo (16 years) and have resided in Forest Lake the past 11 years. Jim loved going to Big Sandy Lake, spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling and spending time with his dogs. Although Jim was quiet by nature he had plenty of humor to share and loved to make people laugh. Jim is survived by loving wife, Debra (soul mate of 45 years); children Travis Manderud and Lindsey Manderud (Adam Hagman) Forest Lake, MN; granddaughter, Nora Evelyn Manderud, Forest Lake, MN. Sisters and Sister/Brother-In-Laws: Judy (John) Carlson, Pine City, MN; Darlene (Denny) Sullivan, Thief River Falls, MN; Diane Scanlan, San Antonio, TX; Nancy (Brad) Solem, White Bear Lake, MN; Joy (Brian) Shipe, White Bear Lake, MN; Julie (David) Eishen, Stacy, MN; and Michael Fay, South St. Paul, MN. Nieces and Nephews: Brian (Amy) Carlson; Erik (Nichole) Carlson; Julie Carlson (Scott Donovan); Danny (Shannon) Carlson; Mark Sullivan; Jenny (Keith) Sullivan Carlson; Ashley Sullivan; Jason (Sara) Scanlan; Brent Solem; Bill Neumann (Jessie Nelson); Eric (Merrily) Shipe; Greg Shipe; Neal Shipe; Ricky Lindstrom; Tara (Jared) Borowicz; Nicole Tavernier; Michael Fay. Jim was preceded in death by parents George and Evelyn Manderud; in-laws David Fay Sr.; Lois and Ray Schneider; brothers-in-law John Scanlan and David Fay Jr.; and nephew Joseph Neumann. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend… Jim passed away peacefully on July 5, 2022, at 63 years of age with family at his side. May his memory be blessed. A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held for Jim on Sunday, August 21 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Location: Manderud Residence at 6412 205th Court N., Forest Lake, MN. Memorials to the family are preferred.

  1. Deb, Lindsey, Travis, All Jim’s Sister’s, and the rest of his Family members I am sending you all Love and Prayers. I have many fond memories with Him. I worked with Jim and his Dad George as a carpenter’s helper many years ago. We had some good laughs:) Many camping and fishing trips with Family, and also with just me and Jim and friends. We also hunted together along with his Dad, and told stories and had some real good laughs together. I had many one on one conversations with Him in private and got to know his true inner self quite well. Jim met my sister Deb when I was twelve years old, so I have know Jim for most of my life. Thank you Jim for all the good times, and sometimes not so good times. Thank you for all the memories my friend. I could say RIP, but I believe when we cross the river and leave this here and now, we only transcend to another realm shall we say. So I prefer I WILL SEE YOU AROUND OK.   2. My family was neighbors to George and Evelyn. Darlene was my best friend growing up. When Jimmy was born he was the blond hair- much waited for boy. Many wonderful memories of this all American family. Rest in peace Jimmy. Christine (Meyer) Jenner
