Date of Birth: April 22, 1932 Date of Death: November 26, 2010 Beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa Age 78, passed away November 26, 2010 surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by infant daughter, Karen; adoptive parents, Marie and Norman Thompson; parents-in-law, Ed and Kathrene Haats; brother-in-law, George Haats and sister-in-law, Carol Haats. Survived by loving wife of 55 years, Shirley; beloved and cherished children, Larry (Sandra), Allen (Alison), Sherry Crane; adorable and special grandchildren, Lauren, Kaitlin, Erin, Elisabeth and Rachel (Nick); brothers-in-law, Ted (Clarice), Gordon, ElRoy (Sylvia), Kenneth (Carla); several nieces and nephews and extended relatives and also many friends. Gene was a member of the Forest Lake Christian Church and the Forest Lake VFW#4210. He served 4 years in the US Navy aboard the USS Newport News during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He retired from International Paper Company after 24 years. He loved his family, loved the outdoors - hunting and fishing and loved traveling. He will be greatly missed. Visitation amp; Funeral Service Visitation 4-7 PM Sunday, Nov. 28th at Roberts Family Funeral Home, 555 Centennial Dr. SW, Forest Lake. Funeral service 1 PM Monday, Nov 29th at the funeral home with visitation beginning at 12 Noon until time of service. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Leukemia amp; Lymphoma Society or Forest Lake Christian Church.

  1. I miss you grandpa more than ever. I think about you all the time and I just wish you were back home with all of us. I love you so much and can’t wait till the one day I can be with you again!
