Ps say hi to Henry for me.

  2. I always looked forward to talking with Elaine at all our family gatherings. She was so special and will be missed! Our sympathies to Nadine, Jim, Dan and David and the entire family.

  3. On behalf of the Forest Lake American Legion Post 225, we give thanks for Henry’s military service to our country in the Air Force and it will be a privilege to provide honors at Calvary cemetery for Henry as they are interned together.

  4. Elaine and Hank were two of my favorite friends. They always had a moment to chat. Great friends, I miss them both.

  5. Nadine, Jim, Dan and David,

With our dads being friends since 1930 something and our moms joining that friendship in the 40’s, our families have shared so many memories together for a LONG time. Godparent’s of each others’ children. Baudette fishing trips, tubing at Echo Bakken, Memorial Day parties, pontoon rides on the lake, cards, making homemade ravioli, making Christmas candy, more cards, birthday celebrations in August and of course the Mascot Resort shenanigans.

Their wedding in 1949 was followed by wedding after wedding of their friends over the next few years. Then 50 years later celebrations of many 50th anniversaries.

I feel blessed that our families were able to remain friends for so many years. I could spend hours writing about the days and weeks spent at Mascot. The memories from all of the other life events shared would fill at least one book.

Your parents were a great couple, great parents but most important, great friends to our family and to many others.

    With love,
    Teri Dupre

  6. Nadine and Jim so sorry about the death of your mom Elaine. She was such a supper sweet lady. I know mom and dad were friends with Frank and Elaine ‘s and yours. Such a sad loss.

  7. When Elaine, Hank, and family moved onto North Shore Drive in the 1960s, they entered a neighborhood of families that were very neighborly. My folks, Mercedes and Ray, really clicked with the Houles and became close social friends, with plenty of card games, parties, Caribbean cruises, and many more activities that close friends share.

The age range of all us kids along North Shore Drive always meant there was plenty of fun happening. Just about any home was open for a kid to run in and use the bathroom, and if we all happened to be around 6488 North Shore Drive at lunchtime, Elaine was happy to feed us. (The same was true at all our homes!) The camaraderie on the block was such that getting a little discipline from Elaine or one of the other moms not only happened on occasion but was expected — it kept us all on good behavior!

When Elaine first arrived, my mom was the only lady in the neighborhood who drove, so naturally, she was a popular “chauffeur” for her compatriots. Elaine eventually learned to drive to get a little more independence. As the kids all got older, it allowed our moms to get away and have some adventures of their own.

When Elaine & Hank moved to the south shore of Forest Lake, the socializing didn’t end, and the fun continued. The years passed and lifestyles changed. In recent years, most of the “visits” between Elaine, Hank, and mom were chance encounters at the Wyoming clinic, where they had been for treatment of their assorted ailments! It was always nice to witness their little reunions, and it reminded me of old times as they reminisced.

My sincerest sympathy to Nadine, Jim, Dan, and Dave and your families.

  8. Our deepest sympathies on the loss of your sweet Mother. A very classy lady! Had to share a couple of pictures in the archives. Sending love, hugs and prayers for each of you as you go through these difficult times. Rosie Roy and Family

  9. So sorry Jim and Nadine about the loss of your Mom. I will always remember the Goose sandwich she made for me. It was delicious. God be with all of your family.

  10. Nadine, Jim, Dan & David, not a Christmas has gone by without thinking/talking about the wonderful Christmas goose dinners that were a part of growing up together on North Shore Drive. Those were truly the best of times. This chapter has now ended for you, life without Mom or Dad – but the memories, pictures and stories will always be there to share. I have been blessed to be part of it. Terry Tolzmann

  11. I was sooooo happy to run into Mr. and Mrs. Houle in October of 2018 in Forest Lake at the Washington County service center. They didn’t recognize me as I had grown up next to them and had not seen them in many years, but I knew them immediately. I believe we were all there to vote . I’m so sorry to hear that Mrs. Houle has also passed. They were wonderful neighbors. 💓💓

  12. I have been visiting Hank and Elaine at Cheerywood since St Peter started bringing Communion to the community. I always looked forward to seeing both. They were always happy to see you and so welcoming. I was so sad when Hank passed, especially for Elaine. She is now with her beloved Hank in eternity. May she rest in peace. She will be greatly missed. She reminds me of my grandma, so sweet and a faithful servant of God and an amazing example for all.

My heart goes out to her family.
    Blessings and peace.

My heart goes out to Elaine’s family.
