October 9, 1968 ~ November 19, 2024

Age 56 of Hugo. Loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Son & Brother, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2024. Preceded in death by brother, Travis. Survived by loving wife of 34 years, Tammy; children, Andrea (Isaac) Willier, Abigayl (Benjamin) Smith, Douglas (Lydia), Emily (John) Clark, Jason, Asher; grandchildren, Elaine, Margo, Hezekiah, Jemima, Henry, Harvey; father, Gary (Cathy); mother, Dorene; brother, Gary (Lisa); nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. Doug saw the glory of God in the world around him and it influenced everything he did. Like Francis Schaeffer, a Christian theologian, he approached life and all that he observed with the question: “how shall we then live?”. This made him a wonderful source of wisdom and godly advice for his family. Doug also had a goofy, fun loving nature that brought joy and laughter to all of the journeys he led us on. Doug’s joy and enthusiasm was contagious. He had many hobbies, and he would bring the entire family along on whatever he enjoyed doing. Whether it was board games, hiking in the mountains, or going on long drives to find the best blueberry patches, he didn’t just instill a love for adventure, he was the adventure. We grew to love his hobbies as much as he did, and have many fond memories of downhill skiing at Giants Ridge, where he would be racing down the hills with a posse of his kids and their friends trailing behind him. When at home, Doug would frequently spend time pursuing quieter hobbies such as painting, drawing, and showing Asher who is better at longboarding in the house. Funeral service 3 PM Tuesday, November 26th with visitation beginning at 1 PM at Oakridge Community Church, 610 County Rd 5, Stillwater. Private interment at Withrow Cemetery.

  1. Of all the men I’ve met in life, Doug was a hero of mine. A giant among men of faith. He was a dear friend and brother in the Lord; one of the toughest men I’ve ever met. I will miss him dearly, but am content to have this time in between time and eternity, time to make a reunion in Christ’s kingdom that much sweeter. I will miss our midnight theological conversations on Kierkegaard’s idea of teleological suspension. God bless and be with all family in this time. Praying and hoping in the Lord for your comfort and peace.

  2. My condolences to the whole Fincel family. Doug always brought joy to everyone around him and the world will miss him greatly. This photo I posted is from September 2022 when Doug took me to catch my first HUGE catfish. He will live on in the memory he gave me. Thank you for sharing Doug with us!

  3. This world is a better place because of Doug. His faith, wit, wisdom and love for his family can’t be duplicated. I consider myself privileged to have known him! Until we meet again Dougers. Tammy and his family are in my prayers.

  4. Dearest Tammy and family. We remember those years ago, a new family moved in across the road with a 6 month baby girl, Andrea. The years have passed so quickly, you moved away but we always thought of you and your family. Hugs my friend, may God wrap his arms around you all as you gather to remember Doug.❤❤

  8. It was an honor to work with Doug as a CBP Officer at the Grand Portage Port of Entry. We also shared in home schooling with the Fincel family and skiing the slopes at Giants Ridge, where the Fincel daughters were patient and helpful to help teach our daughter Megan how to ski.
Tammy, you are the entire family are in our prayers.

We appreciated meeting him and enjoying his hospitality. We are sending you prayers and thoughts. May God’s presence and love help you through this time.

  12. Doug was one of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever met. He was always happy and positive throughout it all. He inspires me to be a better mom, nurse and overall person. I know he is flying high and dancing with Jesus. He was one of the good ones. I’m going to miss you Doug. Love you Tammy and kids.

  13. Tammy and family,

It was a great privilege working with Doug in Winnipeg and getting to know your family. He was a wonderful person, cherished colleague, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him.

In this time of sorrow and great loss, we rejoice with you knowing that Doug is in heaven with his Savior; “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— 1 Corinthians 2:9

Please accept our heartfelt condolences and know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
