Age 81 of Centerville. Loving Husband, Dad, Brother and Grandpa passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023. Preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Freda Wallgren of New York Mills, MN. Survived by wife of 56 years, Marilyn Wallgren (nee Hentila); children, Sara (Steve) McCormick, Jonathan (Janine) Wallgren, and Christopher Wallgren (Dr. Brijen Shah); sister Virginia Nelson and brother-in-law Robert Nelson; grandchildren, Nicholas Cameron, Rhett Cameron, Jonah Wallgren, Charlie Wallgren and Lily McCormick; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don enjoyed working as a civil/environmental engineer during a career that spanned five decades. Notable employers included the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Waste Management where he was known as the founding father of WM’s Landfill University. Throughout his life, he remained a proud University of Minnesota alum and fan of the Gophers, Vikings and Twins. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, negotiating with car dealers and spending time with Marilyn and family in Bemidji, MN and Naples, FL. He will be missed for his quick wit, delivery of Saturday morning donuts and especially his knack for making those around him feel important. A family-only celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, March 25 at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake.

  5. I worked for Don at an Environmental Consulting firm after he retired from Waste Management. He was one of the best bosses I ever had. He was funny, kind, smart and a true professional. I was lucky to get to know him.
