“As a child I survived Polio & lived in an iron lung at the University of Minnesota. I enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1952 and became an Air Traffic Controller with duty in Texas, New York, Greenland and Oklahoma and discharged in July of 1956. I was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency in Salina, Kansas and in 1956 I learned to fly and purchased my first airplane. I was later transferred to Missouri and on to Minneapolis in 1958. I married Darlene in 1959 and we purchased the family farm from my parents in Centerville in 1963, where we raised our 4 children. I lost my job with the FAA in 1981 when the Controllers were fired for striking. We then farmed full time and I was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and salvaged my retirement. We sold the farm to a developer and quit farming in 1997. That year we built a house on 5 acres in Scandia where we still reside today. While in Centerville, we were very involved in the community with the Fire Department, Lions Club, Planning & Zoning and Economic Development… all very educational. In 2005 I was semi-retired being employed by a private contracting firm as an Air Traffic Controller at Anoka Airport in Blaine. I am still an active pilot and built a hanger for our airplane at the Rush City Airport. We’ve enjoyed vacations in Australia, New Mexico, Arizona & California to name a few. Cheers to all … Danny”

You were always a good friend and an inspiration to me. We had hot times on the Centerville Fire Department. I remember once we had to drive the truck into a pond when the grass fire got to big. God Bless You and Darlene. May you rest in peace.
On behalf of the Forest Lake American Legion Post 225, we give thanks for Dan’s military service to our country in the Air Force and to veterans as a long time Legion member.
I have very fond memorys of catching up with Dany and Darlene while on our trips to Oshkosh, particularly the year I took my son in law and youngest grandson on there trip of a lifetime . Your hospitality was amazing .RIP Danny All the best ,to Darlene and family , Lots of love from the Munn’s.
We are very sorry for Danny’s passing. Danny and Darlene were our first friends when we built our hanger at the Rush City airport. They went out of there way to make us feel invited and a part of the airport community. Always joyful, helpful, and laughing. We are so grateful we could call Danny our friend.
