Craig D. Hanscom

May 22, 1974 ~ May 9, 2022
Craig was born on May 22, 1974 to Dan and June Hanscom. He married and had a son, Jack, who was the joy of his life. He loved watching Jack play hockey, and immersed himself in the hockey community and volunteered as a Team Manager with the White Bear Lake Hockey Association. He never missed any of Jack’s games in seven years. Craig loved to spend time with his family, whether it be camping or having everyone over for holidays. He enjoyed playing golf with his best friend, his Dad, and his athleticism shined through on the golf course. He enjoyed experiencing different golf courses during his travels and fulfilled a life-long dream to play Pebble Beach.
He was a natural athlete in baseball, football, basketball and track. Craig has the longest standing High School high jump record in Rosemount, MN. His record was established 30 years ago in 1992 at 6 ft 9 inches. He attended college at the University of Minnesota and received a Bachelors degree from Metro State in Finance. He earned an MBA in finance with an emphasis on healthcare from Concordia- Saint Paul. He spent his career working in the Healthcare industry beginning with Allina Health and quickly ascended to the role of Director of Physician Compensation and most recently worked for Sullivan-Cotter as a Healthcare Consultant.
Craig is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack & Marcie Hanscom and Agnes & Ed Caron. He is survived by his son, Jack; his parents, Dan his sister, Callysa (Dan) Roth and his niece Emelya, and nephews, Elijah his girlfriend, Kimberley Fristed; and his numerous uncles, aunts, cousins & friends.
He lived with a fiery passion and loved everyone he came in contact with. His humor and wit made everyone laugh and his advice always led you to success. He was and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who had him in their lives. He passed away suddenly and will be missed fiercely and celebrated as the wonderful Dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend that he was - until we are together again in Heaven
A celebration of Craig’s life will be 5 PM Thursday, June 9th with visitation beginning at 3 PM at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake. A reception will follow the service at Craig's home. The service will be livestreamed here: https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1654286764187993
We will forever hold our dear friend close in our hearts. Fun times will be remembered-and boisterous laugh will never fade in memory. Molly & Tom Doran
I worked with Craig at Allina and enjoyed him for many reasons. He loved Jack and Jack was often the topic of conversations. He loved to talk of the adventures and the good times together. I hope, Jack, that you can hold tight to those memories as comfort of how much he loved you. Craig was a great guy, with a warm personality and I am so very sorry for his loss. Lori Grand
With our deepest sympathy. Bob & Mary Jo Hanscom, Dawn & Rob Vierow and family, Chad Hanscom and family, Paul Hanscom & Dawn Mosbrucker and family.
I worked with Craig regarding physician compensation at Abbott Northwestern. He was phenomenal to work with and I quickly came to consider him a friend. I am shocked and saddened by his sudden passing and will miss his quick smile as well as his expertise and advice. -Erik Storlie
Our heartfelt thoughts are with you both at this time of great sorrow. Please know you will be in our prayers. All our love, Mark and Jane
We are thinking of you during this difficult time. With heartfelt condolences,
We share in your sadness and pray for peace and comfort during this time. Fond memories remain.
In 2014 I made the decision to retire within the next year. My boss and I immediately began a search for my replacement as we knew there would be a learning curve for the new person. After a few months, we settled on asking Craig to take over as the Director of Physician Compensation. Craig’s work at the divisional level was always solid and respected, but I knew the jump to taking this on at the Corporate level involved significantly more than what he was likely aware. I asked Craig to meet me in a conference room. I brought my computer, opened up my files and for the next 45 minutes showed him the organization of those files, the breadth of what we were doing and the complexity of the task. Craig’s eyes lit up and without hesitation he said, “I’m in.” For the next 10 months, Craig and I worked side-by-side with me transitioning more and more of the responsibilities to his shoulders. These transitional periods can often be awkward and tense, but not so with Craig. There was never any tension as he maintained a sense of humor, a willingness to learn, and then the willingness to step-in and lead. When I officially retired, I was proud of what we accomplished by setting up a smooth transition, and I was proud of Craig for how he took on the role with such class – – – he was assuredly going to do a great job; Allina was going to be lucky to have him. A couple of months after my departure, Craig, his Dad (Dan) and I met up for a game of golf at Loggers Trail in Stillwater. We had a great time and it reminded me of the time when I introduced Craig to the full department at one of our traditional coffee “breakfast” hours. I put Craig through a mock interview with fun questions designed to let the staff get to know him while having a bit of a laugh at the same time. Craig played along just perfectly (as I knew he would). I told Craig the last question would be the most important question and that his job hung in the balance. I said, “Imagine that you and I are playing a round of golf and that we come to the 18th hole with me having a 3 foot putt for par. If I sink the putt, I will break 90 for the first time in my life. Craig, would you come up and say that’s a gimme?” Of course Craig laughed, the room laughed and Craig got the answer right. As I think of Craig today, I recall this moment as it reflects to me who Craig was. Always the kind and upbeat guy who would say that’s a gimme. Dave Waldschmidt

We will live our lives the way Craig would have intended to live his. With passion, love, and with a permanent smile. Love, Kyle, Beau, + Kenny Ryan
I did not have the opportunity to work with Craig until very recently when he reached out to me for an opportunity with the client. He was very kind and helpful in providing insights. I was looking forward to working with him and needless to say, it was with great sadness when I heard about Greg’s passing. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved. Our prayers are with your family.
I worked for Craig at Allina. He was hands down the best manager I ever had the honor of working for. His life ended too soon. Brenda Gensch
I’ve known Craig for over 10 years now, having spent several years working alongside him at Allina, and then had the pleasure of working with him in a client/consultant capacity when I moved to SullivanCotter and took over the Allina FMV process. Since then, we’ve had several conversations about life, family, and career paths as he considered moving away from Allina to his final position at SullivanCotter. Craig was an amazingly kind, caring person who is gone way too soon. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
We are all thinking of you. Sending lots of love and prayers to all. Love, the Reddings
