Merlin "Mert" Schaub

February 12, 1950 ~ April 3, 2019
Age 69 of Forest Lake. Loving Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2019.
Preceded in death by parents, Merlin brother, Fred. Survived by wife of 45 years, Sharon; children, KeriAnn (Michael) Sneep; Ashley Kay (Josiah) Hayes; grandchildren, Ingrid, Nicholas, Brenden; brother, Ralph; nieces, nephews, other relatives & many good friends.
Mert is remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Looking back to his prime his family said he was like Norm from Cheers - everywhere he went everyone knew his name.
Mert was born and raised in Benton Harbor Michigan with his two brothers on a farm. He graduated from Lake Michigan College and Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in business. After College he met his wife and was working for a company that ultimately told him he wouldn’t make it- and no one could tell him he couldn’t do something - so he quit and ventured out to start his own.
On September 30th, 1975, with his wife and 4 year old daughter by his side, they packed up and left everything and everyone they had ever known to move to Minnesota and begin their new lives. Over time Sunrise Packaging was born and thrived.
With his success Mert was a very generous and kindhearted man, doing anything he could for his family and friends. Having touched the lives of many people he has left behind memories and stories that will never be forgotten along with a spark for ulife that can never dim.
A celebration of Mert's life 2-5 PM June 15th at 3rd Gear Restaurant 8241 North Shore Trail, Forest Lake. Memorials preferred to the donor's choice.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Mert will be missed, I enjoyed working with him at Sunrise. He always had a joke and was a to tell. Sorry for your loss Brenda Manderscheid
I look back at the Schaub family videos and see uncle mert when he was in his prime. Back when he was practicing karate in the top floor of the barn.y mom’s best friend and our
Sorry. Finger hit the post button. Anyway he was my mom’s best friend while my dad was in college. He was the likeable one out of all the Schaub boys. He was the one that snuck my brother and I into the hospital to see my grandfather before he had his cancer surgery. He was the smallest toughest football player. he bought me my first beer when Fred took us up to Minnesota to see him. I thought of him a lot and thought of calling him a hundred times but never did I’ll always regret that. Love you Uncle Mert!
We are very sorry Sharon and family to hear of Mert’s passing. Your neighbors are all here for you if you need anything!
Sherrie and Family, we are so sorry to hear of the loss of Mert. We will always cherish memories of his laughter! He was fun, he was funny, and he was genuine! Our prayers are with you at this difficult time.
