Connie Irene (Berg) Rettig, Age 77 of Forest Lake passed away July 3, 2026, near Tabor, South Dakota following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Allen Rettig; her parents, Christian Arneson Berg and Irene Viola (Hedstrom) Berg; and her three siblings, Marion (Alf) Overby, of Sedro Wooley, WA, Elwood Berg, of Marion, IA, and Linda (Roland) Lickness, of Fergus Falls, MN; and her brother-in-law Donald, of Mesa, AZ. Connie was born and raised in New Effington, South Dakota, where she attended primary and secondary school, graduating in 1967. Her early years included the establishment of many, many life-long friendships. In 1966, she met the love of her life, Allen Rettig, from nearby Hankinson, North Dakota. They were married and started their family the following year, living in Whapeton, North Dakota. Their first son, Lee, was born late in 1967. After moving to the Twin Cities in 1968, a second son, Craig, was born. Allen, Connie, and the boys lived in Fridley, Circle Pines, and Blaine, before finally settling in Forest Lake in 1977, where they lived until Allen’s passing.

Connie’s long-held hobbies included dancing with Allen, volunteering at church, sewing, creating ceramic treasures, playing cards, bowling, playing sports with Lee and Craig, and spending lots of time with her many grandchildren and granddaughters. She also spent many years traveling and getting into mischief and other types of fun with her ‘crazy lady’ group in Forest Lake. She was staying in Vermillion, South Dakota, surrounded by grandchildren, in the final year of her life.

While she was a stay-at-home mother during the boys’ elementary years, her work, later, included 25+ years as a technical assembler, technician, and trainer for TSI Incorporated, of Shoreview, MN, retiring in 2011.

Connie and Allen were active members of the Forest Lake Band Aids (band boosters), and had attended Faith Lutheran Church, in Forest Lake, for more than 40 years.
