Gayle M. Alberg (nee: Ostedt)

May 7, 1939 ~ October 4, 2025

Age 86 of White Bear Lake, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. Preceded in death by husband, Gary; parents, Warren & Marjorie Ostedt. Survived by sons, Dave (Gretchen), Tom (Laura) and Jack (Patti); grandchildren, Sam (Katherine), Ellie, Joe and Kelley; brother, Gary (Connie) Ostedt; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gayle grew up on the East Side of St. Paul, attending Farnsworth Elementary, Cleveland Junior High School, and graduating from Johnson HS in 1957.  After high school, Gayle matriculated at Macalester College, where she met the love of her life, Gary Alberg, whom she married in 1960.  Married life did not hinder her studies and Gayle graduated from Macalester with a degree in sociology in 1961.  After college, Gayle worked as a social worker at Ramsey County Welfare Dept. for two years. She left her work with the county to become a full-time parent when her first son was born.

Gayle was a talented artist and enjoyed to paint – especially on a beautiful easel that Gary built for her.  Her paintings adorned the walls in all of the places she lived and are treasured by her family.  After her husband’s 2008 death from prostate cancer, Gayle moved into the Waverly Gardens senior living community in North Oaks.  She would live out the rest of her life at Waverly Gardens, moving from independent living and ultimately to the memory care unit, where she passed away.  Gayle’s family is deeply grateful to the Waverly Gardens staff for the exceptional care they provided over the years.  Likewise, we are also indebted to the Hospice team who was so attentive to Gayle during her final days.

Gayle’s life will be celebrated with a gathering from 2-4 PM on Friday, November 7 at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake.  Private interment at Acacia Park Cemetery, Mendota Heights.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association”
