Meaghan Elizabeth Swensen

November 18, 1972 ~ February 27, 2019
My warrior wife, Dr. Meaghan Elizabeth Swensen, DVM, 46 of Lindstrom, Minnesota became an angel on February 27, 2019 surrounded by her boys. She will now watch over our "boys" from above.
Meaghan was born to Bob Dircks and Jane McNamara on 11/18/1972 in Minneapolis, MN. She was raised in Minnetonka, playing softball, dancing, and enjoying musical theater. Meaghan attended Minnetonka high school and met her eventual husband Jeremy in the spring of 1991 during the musical Mame. The two were paired as dancing partners, and the rest is history.
Upon graduating Minnetonka High school, Meaghan pursued a degree in Biology and a minor in Dance from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She continued her romance with Jeremy and graduated with honors in 1994. Meaghan and Jeremy were married on July, 27, 1996 in the city of Excelsior, MN. They moved to St. Paul while Meaghan pursued her Doctorate in
Veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota. During her time at the University of Minnesota, she met and fell in love with retired racing greyhounds. Meaghan and Jeremy adopted a pair from a closing track in Hudson, Wisconsin and continued to adopt a care for hounds throughout her life.
Meaghan graduated in 2000 and soon started her career at a small animal practice in Arden hills. A few years later she accepted a staff position at Lakes Veterinary and Surgical Center in Lindstrom, MN where she remained on staff until her death.
Meaghan often consider her greatest achievement the birth of her three boys in three very different ways. Jonah was induced, Quinlan came by surprise, and Beckett by emergency c-section. Meaghan was a “boy” mom through and through and was often seen playing baseball, riding scooters, playing legos or stacking blocks, playing tag, stomping in puddles, throwing snowballs or generally hanging out in the front yard with her boys.
She is loved and will be missed by her Husband, Jeremy; her three children, Jonah Tate Swensen, Quinlan Drew Swensen, and Beckett Shae Swensen. Father and Step Mother, Robert and Roberta Dircks and Mother Mary Jane McNamara. Grandparents Thomas and Vicki Swensen, Grandmother Mildred Dircks. Siblings, Audra (Mark) Haveman, Craig (Amy) Dircks, and Molly (Ben) Bender. Brother-in-Law, Jason (Stephanie) Swensen. Nieces and Nephews, Jade (Jermiah) Grimsley, Josh Swensen, Peter, Abbey and Sarah Haveman, Leo and Julia Dircks, Olivia and Thomas Bender. Many other family, clients and friends.
A celebration of Meaghan's life will be held 4-8 PM Thursday March 7th at Roberts Family Life Celebration Home, 555 SW Centennial Dr., Forest Lake.
The Swensen family would like to thank our family, friends, and community for the countless hours of support, donations and love our family received.
Meaghan loved and rescued retired racing greyhounds. She volunteered many hours through Lakes Veterinary and Surgical Center for her Friends and founders of Minnesota Greyhound Rescue Jen and Lloyd Komatsu. Meaghan had requested to Jeremy that in In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Dr. Meaghan's name to:

Fall of 2005, a memory I will always cherish. I Loved this beautiful friend. I will miss her deeply. Melissa
Dear Swenson Family and Lakes Vet; I am so very saddened to hear the news of Meaghan’s passing. One can’t help but wonder the why’s of the twists and turns life can take. She was a wonderful human being, kind and compassionate. She had a shine to her when you saw her and always had a sparkle in her eye and one knew that was because she loved what she was doing. My dog, Topi and I took to her as soon as we first met her. May God embrace you and give you all courage and strength as you move forward in the days ahead. May all the love and light follow her home.
Meaghan was a wonderful mother and will be missed by so many in the community.
It was such a joy to watch she and her husband fall in love during their early years. I could tell she was going to be an outstanding mom the short time that I knew her.
Words have not yet been created that adequately describe the heartbreak of losing a daughter. A part of us has been ripped away, never to be replaced. No one will ever know the pain Meg endured as she redefined the word “fight” in her battle with a rare, aggressive form of blood cancer in order to spend time with her husband and boys. We can get some consolation from the fact that she is now pain free and in a better place. God bless you Meg. We will always love you. Dad and Robbie
Meaghan was always ready with a smile. Sadly I didn’t have many classes with her but my memories of her are all good. Not a bad word to say about anyone, she seemed to be a light hearted person, but we know now she carried the heart of a warrior. My sympathy to her beautiful family during this difficult time.
I remember Meghean’s calm presence when hanging out with Audra in the family home in Minnetonka. My condolences to all of you. With love, Lynn Zagzebski Tovar
Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. I worked with Meaghan at Lakes when I was a relief vet and I always remembered her as a sweet and caring person. I know she will be missed by many people. Kim (Rozinka) O’Callaghan
I did not know Dr. Meaghan or her family, but she definitely was integrated into the community. My prayers to all who loved her for comfort and courage for the days that follow. I am beyond thankful for the life of Dr. Meaghan and thank all of you for sharing her! God bless!
I was never close to Meaghan, but I had her in many classes and her personality was one you didn’t need to be super close to her to understand. She radiated peace and compassion. I feel so deeply for the family for the loss of their courageous wife, mom, daughter and friend. All my sympathy to you all, may her peace and resilience live on through you all.
