January 20, 1939 ~ December 25, 2024

An affable and beloved 85-year-old resident of Wyoming, Minnesota, died on December 25, 2024. Always ready with a grin, corny joke and helping hand, Tom was enormously proud of his four adult children and grandchildren. He also thought the world of his White Bear Lake high school buddies, including Dave Mample, and volunteered for local fundraisers, the Lions Club and more. After serving in the Army intelligence and attending the U of M, Tom worked at 3M as a manufacturer’s rep and later as an independent print rep. An avid reader, he often contributed to the opinion pages of local newspapers. Predeceased by his mother, Janis Obst; father, Harold Obst; and brothers, Nick and Jeff Obst. Survived by son, Andy Obst (Mary Anne); daughters, Christine Obst Coleman, Jen Obst, and Kate Obst (Jason Asnes); brother, Leonard Obst; sisters, Caroline (Obst) Rawlins and Deborah (Obst) Malmo; and grandchildren, Madigan, Ella, Rose and Jack. Heartfelt thanks to Tom’s friends at Forest Lake Printing and Big Apple Bagels. Celebrate Tom’s life on Wednesday, January 1, from 2 – 6 PM at Andy and Mary Anne’s home: 10604 - 230th St. N., Scandia, Minnesota.

  1. On behalf of the Forest Lake American Legion Post 225, we give thanks for Tom’s military service to our country in the Army. It will be a privilege to provide his military honors.

  2. He was proud to spell his name to anyone that would listen: an O & a T with some BS in the middle. He will be dearly missed.

  3. Tom was dubbed Papa Tom by my boys and I named him my honorary grandfather because I had no living grandparents. Tom was always so encouraging when things got tough. “You got this, Kiddo,” he would always say. He was always in my corner and I will forever be grateful to him for his support.

  4. Tom – kind, funny, caring and one of the busiest seniors I have ever met! He is already missed in the building. My thoughts and prayers are with your family!

  5. Tom, I first met you when I was 8 and at 14 I began babysitting for you! I was your neighbor in Scandia. Tom you were so sincere and always kind to me. I love watching your kids in your Big house on the hill! Years went by and you all the sudden came in our shop at Berry’s in Wyoming to have your car looked at! We became great friends again and the guys at work especially Duke loved talking shop talk as you would bring them the best muffins from the
Iindstrom bakery! You will be missed Tom. I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR THIS
Kids I don’t know if you remember me but you were blessed to have him as your father. Sorry I missed the service I had no idea
Peace Tom. Will always love you! Linda Schultz( Engstrom)
