July 7, 1953 ~ September 28, 2024

Age 71 of Linwood Township. Loving Wife, Mother, Sister & Friend, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on September 28, 2024. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Sylvia Young; brother, David Young. Survived by her loving husband of 42 years, John; children, Michelle (Jeff Aguiar), Eric; sister, Cindy (Tim) Ammerman; nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. Sue Hanenburg grew up on Lake Minnetonka. Stories of her childhood revolve around the water and navigating to and from friends’ houses with her small boat. Lake Minnetonka remained an important fond and sentimental location for Sue throughout her life. From an early age she developed a deep passion for horses and became an accomplished rider and horse trainer. After she started a family, Sue moved with her family to Cedar, MN to a Hobby farm she called Country Tyme Arabians, where she accomplished her dream to own and raise several Arabian and Half-Arabian horses. As an avid animal lover, Sue’s pets were also an important part of her family, and she was consistently accompanied at home by her loyal dog and cat companions.Sue also loved children, and children were often drawn to Sue’s compassionate and magnetic energy. This made her very successful through the 20 years she worked throughout the St Francis, MN school system. She was particularly popular and successful with children who required additional support, or even those who just needed a compassionate ear and someone to turn to. Sue’s greatest joy and love was family. She was a fiercely protective mother, the strongest of advocates, and the biggest cheerleader and supporter. She was deeply caring and filled with love that she freely shared for all of her family, friends who were like family to her, the friends and families of her children, and the communities they built together. She was compassionate, generous, and known for showing her love through gift giving. She loved to be together with friends and loved ones, particularly playing card games, and was frequently the instigator in all manner of silly shenanigans or goofiness. Her teasing and infectious laughter, and caring and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held from 4:00 till 7:00pm with the opportunity to share stories at 5:00pm for any who are interested and a light dinner at 5:30pm, on October 11, 2024 at Split Rocks Bowling Lanes, 5063 273rd Street, Wyoming MN 55092.

  1. So many memories of Sue. She was my person from the time I met her at the age of 9 until she was taken from us last Saturday morning. The days we spent swimming and suntanning at Chester Park Beach and the vacations we took together with her family to the Bahamas, Hawaii and the latest trip to Norway and the Netherlands. My heart will never heal, but the memories will last. I love you my BFF

  2. Summer vacations, visiting Sue and family in Minnesota. The lake. Fishing. Watching the moon landing on TV, in the basement at her house (she was bored and threw pillows at me!) Will miss you, cousin.

  3. Sue worked at East Bethel Community School for many years with me. She was funny, kind and I enjoyed her stories. She will be missed by many. I am sorry.

  4. Sue and I used to talk while her son and one of my clients bowled together. She was an amazing woman. She was always so bright and full of life. She will be missed.

  7. I remember Sue fondly as an employee of St Francis schools, but more importantly as an engaged parent at East Bethel Elementary. Michelle and Eric were in my kindergarten class and Sue volunteered as often as she could. Sue always entered the room with a big smile ready to help where it was needed!
Know that many are thinking about you.

  8. John, Michelle & Eric – we are so sorry to hear about Sue and we are thinking about you.

  9. On behalf of everyone at the Alaska SeaLife Center, we want to express our heartfelt condolences during this time.

  10. Sending our sympathy for your loss. We were lucky to meet Sue several years ago when Jack and Jonathan joined the bowling league that she worked so tirelessly towards its success. It was always nice to visit with Sue, she always had a fun story to share. She will be greatly missed by many! Rick and Chris Robinson and family
