Duane W. Wahlin

June 4, 1936 ~ October 1, 2013
Age 77 of Chisago City formerly of St. Paul, went to be with the Lord on October 1st, 2013 after a 5 month battle with kidney cancer. He was born on June 4th, 1936, the oldest of 3 children. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susie, of 55 years; 6 children; Michael, Jerry (Jodi), Dale, Duane Jr. (Carrie), Debbie, and Dean (Janel), grandchildren; Brandon, Jake, Brady, Alex, Abby, Zachary, Sarah, Benjamin, Lucas, Blake, Paige, Grace, Kasey, and Kiley. He is also survived by his mother, Susan; sisters, Jane (Bob) Witzany, Jeanne (Tanny) Dickman. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Wahlin; grandparents, Louis and Alice Wahlin; granddaughter, Stevie Wahlin. Duane was a lifelong Minnesota resident who enjoyed the outdoors and the change of seasons. He was a United States Air Force Veteran and retired from Northern States Power after 37 years of service. Duane fought his battle against kidney cancer with dignity and grace. He was and continues to be an inspiration to his friends and family because of his kind heart and shining example. Family, especially his wife, was everything to Duane. He loved to travel with Susie and was an enthusiastic hockey fan. On most Minnesota Winter nights, he could be found in a hockey arena watching one of his grandchildren. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday October 4th at Roberts Family Funeral Home, 555 SW Centennial Dr. SW, Forest Lake. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Saturday October 5th at St. Bridget of Sweden Church 13060 Lake Blvd, Lindstrom, with visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
An amazing man. We will miss you Uncle Duane. Thinking of the whole family – we love you all.
May you rest in peace with the Lord.
Our condolences to my sister Susie and her family. A wonderful husband and father (grandfather) has gone to be with Lord. He will be miss by all.
Susie and Family, we’re so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. He always had a smile and positive words. The dedication you had for each other was so obvious. We will all miss him. May he rest in peace.
Lots of great memories of Duane. Prayers for you all. Give a special hug to Sue from us.
Dewey,
The way you always talked about your family with such joy and pride is evidence of how great a Father you had. I wish you, Carrie, your children and your extended family comfort during these days and hope that you can reflect and celebrate your Father’s life. You are in my prayers.
So happy I had the great pleasure of getting to know Duane some 20 years ago when he and Susie spent some time visiting with us and sharing some wonderful memories in Alaska. A very great time. Thank you Duane.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Susie and your family. Duane will be fondly remembered by your St. Bridget family. God bless you and yours.
I remember when we were little, Mr. Wahlin would take Debbie and I to events (like the circus) when he’d work at the civic center. He was just a nice man.
Fond memories of working the MN State Fairground concerts and events with Uncle Duane. As a kid I never understood how he consistently outsold me 4:1. As an adult I realized that 99.999% were “beer” not “soda” drinkers. Beer is to soda as apples are to oranges!
Here’s to chewy, chewy, gooey, gooey, caramel apples on a stick and honoring the memory of Uncle Duane.
Remembering Aunt Sue, Michael, Jerry, Dale, Dewey, Dean and Debbie.
Love and Hugs,
Greg
