Richard "Dick" Thomas Flaherty

March 6, 1925 ~ June 28, 2011
Age 86, of Chisago City and formerly of Park Rapids, passed away on June 28, 2011. Richard proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Jane Stepanek on October 27, 1951 and together, they raised three children, Laurie, Robin and Pat in Forest Lake. Richard is a retired 3M employee. Following his retirement, he and Jane made their home in Park Rapids, MN were they enjoyed living on the lake. Richard was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Ryeley Hanson; his parents, John and Josephine Flaherty and one brother, John Jack Flaherty. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane (Stepanek) Flaherty; daughters, Laurie Hanson (Bryan Fultz) and Robin (Jim Ijams) Flaherty; son, Pat (Deb) Flaherty; grandchildren, Cory Hanson, Cassie (Ryan) Keppel, Trevor Nowack, Ryan Flaherty (Andria Sterbentz) and Kathleen Flaherty; great grandchildren, Ashton and Hayley Hanson and Kyla Keppel; sister, Mary Peg Arnold as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, 13060 Lake Blvd., Lindstrom with visitation beginning at 9 AM until time of service. Interment with military honors will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Dick will truly be missed. I will never forget our talks at the flying field and at church. He was alway full of smiles and a kind word. I am very honored to have called him friend. My prayers are with you and your family.

He is at Peace now and resting in the arms of Jesus and someday you all will be reunited once again in the heavenly skies. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. Jane, sorry to see Dick passed away. We’ll always remember your many visits to our store in Dorset and the fun we had. Remember the time I sent you out of the store with the biggest bag I could find, only to tease Dick?? Our sympathy to you and the family
