Age 75 of Hugo, Minnesota The most loving father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and comrade. Sam passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, while surrounded by his family at the VA hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sam grew up in Forest Lake Minnesota and at age 19 proudly enlisted and served his country and with his brothers in the United States Army Infantry, in Vietnam during the war from 1967 to 1969 as a paratrooper with the 173d Airborne Brigade (Separate) D/3/503 and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon return from the military, Sam began a long career as an over the road truck driver. He owned his own trucks and later hauled construction equipment for Gene Arnt at Arnt Construction until his retirement in 2015. Sam’s passion and love for life grew with the start of his family. Sam was a selfless man who spent as much time as he could with his family and when not with them, he would proudly boast while sharing stories about them. Sam was a highly intelligent man who had a wonderful heart and smile and could always make everyone around him smile and laugh. Sam is and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fellow Skysoldiers and comrades. Sam served as the Secretary (2003), and Membership Chair (2004-2005) on the 173d Airborne Brigade Association Board. Sam also served on the 173d Airborne Brigade National Memorial Foundation Board at Fort Moore (Fort Benning), Georgia from 2021 to 2024. Sam was instrumental in raising money to continue the legacy of this memorial and to preserve and commemorate the memory of those who served in the 173d Airborne Brigade and lost their lives during their service to their country. Sam traveled all over the world pursuing his scuba diving passion where he met many wonderful friends. Sam was a certified master diver and trained in the highest levels of scuba diving. Sam’s very favorite part of life was being able to share and teach scuba diving to his family and a highlight was taking his granddaughter, Jaden on an international dive trip. Sam preserved his memories and experiences through his love of underwater photography. Sam was preceded in death by his parents Edward & Beryl Maslowski, his siblings Carol and Mary Wieczorek and brother-in-law Pete Wieczorek. 4. Sam was such a memorable guy. He was always pleasant. The photo is from the car wash where we would meet to hang out or figure out a party lactation back in 60 – 70s. I trully appreciate him serving our country. Love to his family.

  5. My biggest memory of Sam was how he had a love for softball, and he coached his nephews, Scott and Mike along with a lot of their friends… He was very competitive and hated losing! It was really funny when I used to sit on the bleachers and watch because my boyfriend at the time played on his team and one day, I told Sam that I could take over the books so he could focus on the game and he replied back to me “as long as you know how to give RBI’s you got the job! That’s when I learned all about Sam’s love for the boys and the game:) I will never forget you and all the laughs we had:) love Heather Marx

  6. Dear Sam Your Friendship and love will be missed! Richard and Edith Crofoot and all our diving friends

  7. Beloved Uncle Sam, you will forever be in our hearts. Mike, Melissa, Tatum Wieczorek Tyler Rosenberger and Family.
