Catherine G. "Kay" MacKondy
July 2, 1921 ~ August 10, 2022
Age 101 of Forest Lake, Beloved Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 10, 2022.
Preceded in death by loving husband of 68 years, Nicholas; brother, Dominic Fazzalari. Survived by children, Frank (Karen), Mary Marchionda (Robert Kurschner), Victor Bruno, Ben (Norma) Bruno; grandchildren, Nicole, Marc (Krista), Toni and Andrea; great granddaughters, Olivia, Sophia other relatives & friends.
In 1977 Kay and her husband Nicholas founded Buon Giorno Italian Market in St. Paul, retiring in 2000.
A celebration of Kay’s life 1:30 PM Monday, September 19th with visitation beginning at 1 PM at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great – 1910 S. Ashland Avenue, Chicago, IL 60608-2905.

We have so many fond memories of Kay but our favorite is the day we met Kay. Maybe 30 years ago or more we met Kay and Nick at a wine tasting at Hillcrest Country Club. She was immediately so warm and welcoming, and so excited that we shared some ancestry with the Abruzzo. Immediately she proudly said “you must meet my son Frank”. She literally hauled us over to meet Frank and Karen. Thus began an immediate and close friendship with the entire MacKondy family. Thank you Kay! Bert and Suzie Colianni
In Heartfelt Loving Memory of my Godmother, Kay, for your unending support, love, and laughter. Your beauty and grace will always be remembered. 101 years young- a life well lived. I love you.
We don’t technically qualify as family, but we nurture that feeling anyway. We appreciated very much the warm welcome with which Kay always greeted us in our visits. A Great Lady.
