Greg "The Tire Guy" Daninger

greg daninger

February 8, 1953 ~ January 30, 2022

Greg “The Tire Guy” Daninger went home to the Lord at the age of 68, surrounded by his loving family on January 30th, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Thomas & Cecelia; niece, Courtney Hoff. Survived by siblings, Toni (Jim) Pankratz, Kitty (Jon) Johnson, Cheryl Proulx, Cindy Daninger, Susan (Craig) Hoff; 15 nieces & nephews; many great & great-great-nieces & nephews; many dear friends. Greg was the life of any family gathering. When he was in the room you could hear his laugh, you were sure to hear a joke or ten and you knew you were loved. He loved his 5 sisters more than anything. His Dad used to say “I have 5 girls and one human being.” Greg always joked and laughed about that, but he was forever grateful for his relationships with them and how they all made sure he was taken care of. From Sunday morning chat sessions, to filling his freezer with food, to being his caregiver at the end, his sisters were like Gold to him. All of Greg’s family meant so much to him, from his nieces and nephews all the way to his great-great nieces and nephews, when he was around there was always laughter. He had nicknames for most of them, stories he got them to believe and was the constant prankster. Greg loved watching their eyes light up and their bellies laugh because of him. Greg spent most of his working career working for Bauer Built as a tire salesman. If he wasn’t at work there, then he was at his home running Shakey’s tires. He was the tire guy, everyone knew him. His famous line was “What size tire.” The passion of tires wasn’t what kept Greg in the business all of these years, it was the people. The friendships and stories spent over hours of changing tires or brakes was where it was at, if only those garage walls could talk. Greg was a great friend, one who would listen always, talk often and loved you with all of his heart. Anyone that was lucky enough to be his family or friend certainly knew the true meaning of love. He would do anything for you and all of them would do anything for him. His legacy of love, laughter and generosity will live on, despite leaving a big void to fill….who is going to take home all of the leftovers now. Visitation 4-8 PM Friday, February 4th with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Saturday, February 5th with visitation beginning one hour prior at Church of St. Peter, 1250 S. Shore Dr., Forest Lake. Masks are required for attendance at both events. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Forest Lake. The prayer service will be livestreamed here: https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1643679997163606

  1. My dear brother. You were one of a kind. No one can ever fill my heart with the love for me and my family like you did. You gave selflessly to anyone in need. Most times it was something we found out much later that you did. I want to thank you for allowing me to be with you to the end. I saw that smile on your face before you left us and I felt comfortable knowing you had taken the hand of Mom, Dad and our dear Lord and gone home. It’s hard to let you go but your memories will fill the hole in my heart. Knowing you are free from pain also makes it easier. Thanks for putting up with me for 61 years. I know it took two weeks to get used to the fact that I wasn’t a brother, that I was your sister for you to finally came home. I hope I did not let you down. Until we meet again. I love you! Your favorite sister 😉

  2. Oh Greg, you have no idea how much you are and will be missed by Tim and I. Getting my tries and brakes done on our cars was actually something I enjoyed, because I would get to sit and talk with you about anything and everything. You are so loved and will be so missed. Prayers to your family and friends during this difficult time. We love you! Until we meet again – RIP. Kia Bauer

  5. I can remember when I was growing up on our Daninger family farm just south of Forest Lake. It was a big deal to go to my cousin Greg’s place in town or visit Uncle Tom, Greg’s Dad at the Gamble’s Hardware Store in town. I will never forget when Greg had pet white rats in the basement of their home in Forest Lake. I don’t know if it is true but I heard they got loose once in a while:-). I can imagine how Aunt Ceil’s haircut customers liked that. I remember Star their dog. I remember watching the 4th of July parade with Greg and his family. I remember when Greg came down to visit us when we were living in Phoenix. Greg came with his Dad, that was neat. I just love the tire background of his obit, how appropriate. Greg – you have been in Diane and my prayers for a long time and you will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers even when we are in Colorado for the winter. It was wonderful to see how Greg’s family took care of Greg when he needed it. Love you all. Dominic & Diane Daninger
